The Bald Eagle
Their Habitat
These birds with their bright white feathers and vibrant yellow beaks live in tall trees in the forest areas near bodies of water. They live here so they can fish and bathe themselves in the water. Bald Eagles build nests that can weight as much as one ton. Bald Eagles choose their mates and live with them for the rest of their lives. If one of the mate dies, the other one finds a new one. At age four or five the female lays eggs. Both of the egg's "parents" tend to the eggs and the nest.
Their Diet
Because Bald Eagles live near water, they mostly eat fish. But they also eat waterfowl, such as ducks and swans, and other birds. Bald Eagles also eat small mammals and any dead animals they find on the ground.
Interesting Fact!
Bald Eagles are very strong birds, they can carry up to four pounds! They are also very strong swimmers, but if the water is to cold they get weak from hypothermia.
